Unhealthy Friendships

There are all kinds of friendships that you'll have at all points in your life ? but some of them are not going to be good for you or for the other person that is involved. These are called unhealthy friendships, and it is important to know if you are in one. It is important to surround yourself with healthy friendships your entire life, so if you are in an unhealthy one, it is important to know it.

Sometimes, a friendship can be a drain on you. This happens when a friend takes and takes from you, and gives nothing back. If you have a friend that you are always there for ? that you listen to, support, lend money to, and are always a good friend, that friend should also be there to do the same things for you. However, if you are constantly finding yourself being the one who is giving, and not getting anything back again, it could be a sign of an unhealthy friendship. Remember, you should get good things out of all friendships that you have, so take a look at your friendships and really analyze them to see what you are getting out of them. It should be something!

unhealthy friendships, emotional abuse, enduring friendships

Sometimes, a friendship is unhealthy in that it is hurtful to you. It could be that emotional abuse is the route of the friendship. If your friend is putting you down, being negative to you, or criticizing you at all times, this is an unhealthy friendship. Remember that friendships should be something that you can trust, and something that you can lean on.

Remember, you don't always need to walk away from unhealthy friendships. If your friend recognizes that they aren't doing what they should do for you, and if they are willing to work on their end of the friendship, see if you can work it out. Express your feelings and help your friend learn to be a better friend to you, by telling them how you feel when they act a certain way, and by making sure that they understand what it takes to be a proper friend.

If your friend isn't making any progress, and you still aren't getting anything out of your friendship, it might be time for you to let go of the relationship and move on. Remember that each friendship should give you something in return, so you need to be aware of this and allow your friendships to grown and to blossom.

There are also ways to be thoughtful and considerate when it comes to people you don't know. Even opening the door for a stranger or for someone with a large package is a simple way to be kind to someone. Cleaning up a mess that isn't yours, or straightening things that have fallen over are both things that you can do when you in your own home or are out and about. Just doing little things for the people around you can make big differences in their lives. This is what being thoughtful and considerate is all about.

Finding true friends to surround yourself with is very valuable, and will end up meaning much more to you than enduring friendships that are unhealthy. Try to always make good choices and you'll find yourself alongside lifelong friends that will help you make the most out of your life.
