There are friends, and then there are best friends. Best friends are usually a little bit different than just friends. When someone is a best friend, it means that you can share anything in the world with them. They usually know all of your secrets, and you theirs. They know you inside and out, and at that moment in your life if you had to only choose one person to spend the rest of it with, it would be your best friend.

There are lots of ways that a person might treat their best friend. Most of them are positive. A best friend is usually someone that you do things for and do things with, and someone that you support. However, sometimes a person isn't as nice to a best friend as they should be, because they know that the friend will be there for ever regardless of what they do, and it doesn’t matter if they are nice or not. But, this isn't true. It is important to take care of your great friendship by being open and honest with your friend all the time, and by doing things for him or her as often as you can.

You also need to nurture your friendship by spending time together, and by doing things that you like to do together. Don't forget that even though your best friend is always going to be there for you, you must always respect them and treat them like you'd want to be treated. This is the best way for you to keep your best friendships strong.

When you want to show your best friend that he or she is important to you, there are lots of things that you can do. Even sending them text messages to remind them of how much you care about them is a great thing to do, and something that you can easily do no matter how busy you are. A best friend will also appreciate a letter or a poem, or even a piece of art that comes from your heart and is meant for them. It is important, most of all, to be open and genuine with your best friend. You always want to be sincere with them, and tell them how much they mean to you. A best friendship that is only built on flattery isn't going to last, because people can see through friendships that are formed for other reasons. If you try to be friends with someone to gain popularity, for instance, you'll be seen through.

Best friendships are very beautiful and wonderful things, but they aren't something that everyone has. If you have someone that you can call your best friend, you should know how fortunate you are in your life – not everyone gets to experience that kind of friendship. You want to be sure that you are nurturing the friendship whenever you can, and that you aren't ignoring them or taking them for granted.

If you don't take care of your friendships, especially your best friendships, you find that the person you thought was so close to you wants to be close to someone else. People need friends, and once you have them, take care of them so that you will always be able to keep them. If you find that your best friendships are slipping ,and you don't see your friend often, or things haven't been the same since a big fight, you can still make it better. Be honest with that person, and talk to them. Tell them how much the mean to you, and ask them if you can start over again.

Having a best friend requires effort, of course it does. But the joy that you get from your best friendships are going to be well worth it.
